Job Description

The Medical Records Clerk is responsible for assisting in maintaining the integrity of the medical records of all agency clients and participating in special projects.

Skills / Requirements

Position Qualifications:

  • Be eighteen (18) years of age
  • Have one (1) year general office experience
  • Experience in medical records preferred
  • Possess knowledge of medical terminology and previous experience with general clerical duties or the equivalent education and/or training
  • Ability to work with little supervision and make appropriate judgments in regards to work functions
  • Must be dependable, tactful, and ability to follow orders
  • Ability to manage several concurrent assignments
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • Type 45 words per minute accurately
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications

Essential Job Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Perform all medical record organization, including assembling new charts, performing initial audit, maintenance of chart organization and filing, and performing periodic audits for completeness of medical records.
  • Perform word processing in relation to medical records
  • Assist in processing of physician orders, including initial certification signatures, recertification signatures, and other orders.
  • Fax lab reports and other reports to physicians or other agencies involved in clients care.
  • Assemble mailings.
  • Participate in special projects as directed.
  • Adhere to dress code
  • Adhere to work schedule and maintain good punctuality and attendance record
  • Other duties as needed and assigned.
